Summer Fun
We’ve had a fun filled summer of activities here at St Germain’s which began one busy Friday in July, with the delivery of 10 tonnes of sand at 7 am. Our willing, hardworking volunteers, including many excited children, spent the day filling a giant sand pit in the church garden. The ‘beach’ opened on a daily basis throughout the school holidays and was enjoyed by church and community families alike. One child was heard to remark, “It’s my best day ever!” when told the ‘beach’ was going to be open today.
We are very aware that many families increasingly struggle to find affordable things to do over the summer, so it was an absolute joy to be able to offer lots of free activities alongside the ‘beach’, including, Create & Cook Together for Families; Fitness Sessions; Art Sessions; Community Cafe; Family Fun Fridays; ‘Outside-In’ Church – Beach Special; Teddy Bear’s Picnic; Museum Trips, and of course our annual Community Fun Day with free children’s bouncy castle, outdoor games, crafts and interactive prayer stations.
We marked the end of summer, in church, with a ‘Back to School with God’ All Age Service. This is a Scripture Union initiative which is all about marking the new school year. The service heightened awareness that God goes with us into school; reassured us that the church family cares and is praying; challenged those involved in education, either as students or staff, to be lights for Jesus in school, and raised awareness of year-round prayer.
